MOON ROCK
Silvery forms temporarily appear on the shoreline, in liminal spaces, like beacons, navigation points, shining and reflecting across sea, land, sky. Remaining only in the memory, and as a series of digital images and prints.
Moon Rock, Mohni was part of an international Live Arts Project in Estonia in 2003. Made in response to the decommissioned lighthouse on the island, aluminium sheet was wrapped around a massive glacial boulder, so the silvery form could be seen from the mainland, an alternative navigation point.
Since then Bevan has responded to specific places in Orkney including: Moon Rock, Hoy Sound – made as part of the collaborative project Orkney, Beside the Ocean of Time; Moon Rock, Varði – made following the Covid pandemic lockdown (with Callum, Finlay, Jen and Mark) and Moon Rock, Ness made in collaboration with archaeologist Mark Edmonds. The boulder had been placed in the wall, known as ‘the Great Wall of Brodgar’ over 5000 years ago. The Ness of Brodgar was excavated from 2004-2024 and covered again with earth in August 2024.
All Moon Rock Giclée prints are available to purchase. For further information, please send a message through the CONTACT PAGE.
